Collaborative Reading-Writing Lab
Call for Participants
Collaborative Reading-Writing Lab
October 2024 – March 2025
Online
Collaborative
Would you be interested in joining a group of people from all around the world to share in exploring feminist methods of reading and writing together? Once a month we will meet for around 1.5 hours on Zoom, where each is asked to listen to each other (not optional) and to take turns and read something out loud (fully optional).
It is not necessary to join every meeting.
Reading – Zoom sessions
We will send out a short text (1-2 pages) one to two weeks before the meeting. These will be sections taken from the book Power of Gentleness: Meditations on the Risk of Living by Anne Dufourmantelle (Fordham Press, 2018). Everyone is asked to read it and select some text in response to this selection. We encourage everyone to select texts that speak to them in response to the Gentleness-selection. Although English will be the shared language in the meeting, people are free to bring in texts from other languages. It can be poetry, stream of consciousness, fiction, academic, mystic, old or new, written by someone else or by yourself. We ask everyone to limit their chosen piece of text to 2 pages. If time allows, people can share more selected texts if they would like to.
During the zoom-meeting all participants will be asked to shortly state their name and location, and then we will start reading the selected sections of that month from the Gentleness-book. After that everyone who feels like is welcome to share their own selected text in response. There will not be a discussion.
This approach is aimed at including many different voices from all over the world, both well-known and new voices.
Writing
After sharing this collaborative space online, each will return to their own lives and write something in response to the experience (fully optional). We encourage you to send in some text or response, which we will collect and showcase online, curated by the hosts of the lab. You are also welcome to write it without sending it in. By sending it in, you agree that the text (as a whole or in parts) may be put online. You may choose if you want it to be published under your name or anonymously.
Response 1 (October 2024) – PDF can be downloaded here.
Lab
This Reading-Writing Lab is hosted by the Study circle 4 ‘An/Other\not-I/(m)\Other in Feminist Philosophy’ at the Nordic Summer University. As with all the events hosted by this circle, both the physical symposia and the online sessions, are very much of an experimental nature. We appreciate feedback and people joining in making this a successful endeavour. Please know that everyone involved in the Nordic Summer University, as well as the coordinators of this study circle, are all volunteers.
